They do sound yummy .....I wonder if the husks are hard to remove? We had a big cherry tree when we moved here but finally chopped it down. It was right next to the garage door and the wasps were a huge problem .......not to mention the mess they make on the ground and being a bear attractant.

The husks are papery, like tomatillos ~not at all difficult to remove. They spread like crazyyyyy so if you were to grow them you would want a large raised container bed. I'm sure the bears would love them though as they are sweetish. And I hear ya on the cherry tree, I had a pear tree in one of my b-yards ~ very pretty tree, and I loved the bounty but insanely messy, wasps and bees galore...and then the rats moved in. GAH!!!!!!

We still have our pear tree although hubby threatens to chop it down every year.  Lots of work when you get older and yes the wasps are a pain in the butt. But the bears do a fair good job of cleaning them up off the ground although normally leave a calling card or two.  Thankfully no rat  problem at all.
